Margaret Wighton was baptized on January 29, 1773 in Meigle. As with her parents' other children, she was born in Potento.

It's impossible to know if Margaret lived past her infancy and married. There were no Margaret Wighton marriages in Meigle, but it's possible that she married elsewhere. I found six such possible marriages (below), however, in the last four, she would have been quite old. I have included them as possibilities because one of them was a Meigle marriage.

  • A Margaret Weighton married Peter Fife, 1795 in Dundee. The couple had 3 children but this family was part of Greg Wighton's line.

  • A Margaret Wighton married William Hegie (Heggie) in Kilmany, Fife (recorded also in Dundee) in 1803. They had one daughter, Janet Heggie, born in 1804 in Kilmany, Fife. There was one possible marriage for Janet but that produced no recorded children for me to compare grandparent/grandchild names. Dundee is close enough to Meigle to be considered, but one would have to wonder how Margaret would be living there. Perhaps, William moved to Dundee after he became a corn dealer.

  • A Margaret Wighton married Alexander Gun in 1808 in Errol. Nine children were found in the records but none had a middle name from our family. If this was our Margaret, she would have been 35 years old at the time of her marriage. Also, Errol is quite a distance from Meigle.

  • A Margaret Wighton married Charles Scott, in Kinnoull in 1811. Five children were found - all born in Kinnoull - however, none had middle names. If this was our Margaret, she would have been 38 years old at the time of her marriage. Kinnoull is near Perth.

  • A Margaret Wighton married William Taylor in Meigle in 1811. Three children were found - all born in Meigle - however, none had middle names associated with our line. If this was our Margaret, she would have been 38 years old at the time of her marriage.

  • A Margaret Wighton married Samuel Miller in Glasgow in 1812. Four children were found but none had middle names associated with our line. If this was our Margaret, she would have been 38 years old at the time of her marriage. Glasgow is too far away to be considered.

With most of these marriages being unlikely, and with no solid evidence that Margaret married in Dundee (the most likely option), I had to conclude my search. Margaret did not appear in the 1841 census - she would have been 68 at the time. Nor did I find her in the post 1855 death certificates when she would have been 82 or over.
