John, William Wighton and Margaret Finlay's sixth child, was baptized on June 3, 1770 in Potento, Meigle. As with William's other children, there was no mention of Margaret in the records, but we can assume that she was indeed the mother. I was unable to find any evidence that John lived past his infancy, married, or had children. There were no marriages involving a John Wighton in Meigle in the 1795-1805 time span. It's entirely likely that, if John had grown up to marrying age, he might have married outside of Meigle parish, but I have no way of knowing which parish he married in, and whom he might have married. There were 8 potential marriages.
It's possible that some of the above couples emigrated which would explain why so many of them had no recorded children. It's also possible that John married, but did not register that marriage. It's also possible that John remained single and lived a long life. However, if so, I couldn't find him. There was no John Wighton in the 1841 or 1851 censuses that had an obvious connection to Meigle. Only one John Wighton with the appropriate age and birth year appeared in a death record post 1855. However, this John did not have a Thomas as a father. For more information about Scotland during this period, you may wish to read about the Growing Prosperity at the End of the 18th Century.
