The Bridge over the River Dean (above) was within walking distance of the homestead of the Meigle Wightons in the 18th century. |

The story of the Meigle line of the Wightons starts with a marriage. On February 2nd, 1734, John Wighton married Helen Mill in the little village of Meigle (about 15 miles north of Dundee). Since Meigle's parish records didn't start until 1727, we don't know where John was born, who his parents were, or if he had any siblings. However, we do know the names of about 50 of John's children, their grandchildren ... and their great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren. Most of the pages on this website are devoted to their direct descendents. In addition, there are descriptions of the Scottish towns where they lived and essays (for the lack of a better word) on the times and the conditions in which they lived.
